Pediatric scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine characterized by a lateral curvature and vertebral rotation, most commonly diagnosed during periods of rapid growth in childhood and adolescence. While the majority of cases are idiopathic in nature, the condition can also present as a congenital malformation of the vertebrae or secondary to an underlying neuromuscular disorder. Diagnosis is typically confirmed through clinical examination, including the Adam's forward bend test, and radiographic imaging, where the Cobb angle measurement is used to quantify the severity of the curve. Management is tailored to the patient's age, skeletal maturity, and the degree and progression of the curvature, with treatment protocols ranging from observation for mild cases and orthotic bracing for moderate curves to surgical intervention, such as spinal fusion, for severe or progressive deformities.
